Our Program

Rock Academy is a performance based music school run by Jason Bowman who brings more than 30 years experience as a professional musician and teacher to the table. Our staff are all working, professional musicians dedicated to keeping the spirit of Woodstock alive. Our entire school is dedicated to getting kids playing music onstage, with a deep drive to getting everything possible out of the experience.

Rock Academy is a year round, tuition-based program. Students take a weekly 45 minute lesson in their primary instrument and attend weekly rehearsals when in season (roughly 30 weeks per year) in preparation for our seasonal shows.

Shows are chosen for their artistic and educational merit and a variety is always offered to best represent the incredible wealth of artists we aspire to learn from. We stage 5 productions in the Spring, Fall and Summer semesters, with rehearsals for these shows occurring on both week days and weekends to accommodate the schedules of our students.

Seasonal Schedule

Seasons run as follows:
The Fall Season begins rehearsals in early October with shows in December and early January.
The Spring Season begins rehearsals in February with shows in April and May.
The Summer Season begins rehearsals in June with shows in August and September.

A student’s primary instrument can be guitar, bass, drums, or keyboards. Vocals are not considered a primary instrument at Rock Academy as we strongly feel that all vocalists should have at least a rudimentary understanding of an instrument as they move forward with their artistic pursuits. Vocal instruction is available in addition to ones primary instrument.

TICKET REQUIREMENTS
We require that all students performing in shows sell 10 tickets to that weekend of shows. This is an extremely important part of our program – it teaches the kids how to promote their art and guarantees a large and enthusiastic crowd for all of our performances.

If you’re interested in applying for either our year-round program, or one of our summer camps we’d love to talk to you. Send us an e-mail and we can answer any questions you may have about the program, or if you’ve seen one of our shows and already know you want to be a part of our school, email or call us at (323) 538-3012.
